Jennifer T
Jennifer joined Alliance for New Music-Theatre in 2017 helping to develop The Afghan Women’s Project, and she served as both choreographer and dancer in Women of Troy: Voices from Afghanistan. She continues in these dual roles for The Garuda Project. In the summer of 2019 she has been an inaugural member of the New Moon Lab, exploring with four other women in the company in a vocal workshop, Sacred Voices of Women.
Her teaching experience includes more than a decade in Washington, D.C., where she has choreographed for more than 30 theatre shows and has directed several student and professional companies. Utilizing her keen eye for detail and expression, she teaches master-level classes and works one-on-one with dancers and movers to develop their best performative selves, and coaches competitive dance performers to achieve their goals.
Jennifer brings her love of music, movement, and expression to the classroom. As a teacher at the Sahara Dance Studio, she shares a sense of humor and creates a safe and approachable space in finding and refining individual expression.
Her dance work is an artful fusion of the disparate styles she has studied over the years, culminating in a complex yet accessible form, and she conveys a profound understanding of how music relates to emotional expression and the body in motion. Her innate musicality and sophisticated understanding of rhythms and melody taps into an otherworldly time and place and ultimately brings a sense of celebration and connectedness to her audience and students.
As a lifelong student, she has a passion for learning and whenever she is able, she continues to study and practice different dance forms around the world. She has dedicated much of her life to the practice and philosophy of yoga and recently earned her 500-hr teaching certification. She is also well-versed in the mechanics and use of Pilates and body movement and holds a certificate in refining dancer movement.
