Mission

Alliance for New Music-Theatre fosters the collaboration of artists across cultures;

nurtures the creation, development, and performance of new works;

and engages audiences in the creative process to promote a deeper understanding of the transformative power of music-theatre in its many forms.

Vision

Committed to “changing the conversation through the arts,” artists from Alliance for New Music-Theatre believe that through collaboration and in partnership with key arts organizations, embassies, and other institutions, we can transform the capital into a world-class center for cross-fertilization in the arts. We can create opportunities for new voices and bring stories to the stage that matter -- with music that breaks open hearts. We share a vision that through bold and healing art-making and practices we improve our community and the globe.

What is the Alliance for New Music-Theatre?

  • An Alliance that brings together local and international artistic members working across the genre and disciplinary spectrum of  music-theatre.

  • A Partner with embassies, museums, a consortium of theaters, educational and other cultural and internationally-minded institutions

  •  A Not-for-Profit 501(c)3 organization

What Do We Do?

  • Develop new works -- including opera, musicals, cabaret, jazz works, multi-media, and cross-cultural works where music, word, and often dance-movement co-join – through research, writing, composing, and workshops

  • Produce bold, mostly original works that respond to and tell stories that resonate with our times

  • Explore new ways of making sound, offering on-going training to singer-actors and other music-makers that develop their stylistic capacities

  • Forge Strategic Alliances with like-minded, forward-thinking partners to support each other’s work and strengthen the Washington community as a whole

  • Engage with audiences in conversations through sharing initial ideas, open rehearsals, workshops, and post-show discussions to cultivate ever-more critically appreciative audiences of our work and music-theatre throughout the Greater Washington area.
